She's got her own battles to fight from her time overseas, and she's not equipped to take on more. Former Army Special Ops Sergeant First Class Asher James could handle anything that war sent his way - terrorists, bombs, bullets. The only thing that scares him now is sleep. When he arrives at her office she isn't there - but a dead body is. Brooke is devastated when she walks in, and Asher is a conveniently strong shoulder to cry on. But she can't take him on as a client after sharing such an intimate and unprofessional moment, can she? And he's not sure he can handle sharing his deepest fears with such a beautiful woman. When it becomes clear that Brooke was the real target of the attack - and that her secrets go even deeper than his own - Asher vows to protect her no matter what."--Publisher description.

Publishers Weekly Review

Eason (the Women of Justice series) kicks off her Danger Never Sleeps series with this suspenseful tale of an Army therapist being hunted by terrorists. A soldier saved Army psychiatrist Brooke Adams from a bomb explosion in Afghanistan, and the soldier's dying words were a plea to clear his name: he had been accused of selling information to terrorists. Back home in South Carolina, Brooke is contacted by retired Sgt. Asher James, who seeks help with his PTSD. When he arrives at her office, they discover her new assistant has been murdered and the killers are after Brooke. It appears that someone wants to know what she heard from her rescuer--and then to shut her up for good. Rather than go to the police, she and Asher begin sleuthing, but more attacks make them wary of investigating what's behind them too deeply. In Afghanistan, Brooke's friend Sarah, a reporter, is about to break open an organ-harvesting and child trafficking ring. As Brooke and Asher discover more of Sarah's reporting and how it meshes with their own memories of that fatal day, it becomes clear they are all up against the same dark, desperate, and dangerous forces. Leaning on their shared faith and sense of purpose, Brooke and Asher forge a strong relationship. Eason remains a force in action-packed inspirational fiction with this excellently paced, heartening tale. (Jan.)

Booklist Review

After an explosion in a café in Kabul nearly kills her, military psychologist Brooke Adams returns home to go into private practice while trying to manage her PTSD. Instead, photos from the deadly explosion put her back in harm's way. She crosses paths with former army special ops sergeant first class Asher James, who booked an appointment with her to try to manage his own PTSD but instead finds a dead body in her office. Brooke and Asher join forces to try to figure out who is trying to kill her, only to discover that they are embroiled in a horrifying global situation that some important people will go to any lengths to cover up. Readers who enjoy the combination of faith and romantic suspense will be thrilled with Eason's latest, the first in the Danger Never Sleeps series, which introduces a fascinating cast of characters who will surely populate forthcoming sequels.--C.
