Enhanced descriptions from Syndetics:

Dr. King's personality is better known than what he said or stood for, and his violent death has overshadowed his life and message of hope. Drawing from his books, speeches, sermons, and other sources, this eloquent collection presents King's philosophy in his own words. one of the nation's greatest leaders. (Plume)January

Booklist Review

Alike in purpose and format to its series predecessors, The Wit and Wisdom of Mark Twain and The Wit and Wisdom of Abraham Lincoln, this book, with its accessibility and readability, is useful both for reference and for browsing. In A-to-Z arrangement by specific topic (actually, A only to Y, "Abernathy, Ralph" to "Young People"), editor Ayers presents passages from King's writings, speeches, and sermons, some excerpts only a sentence long, others several sentences in length and accompanied by background information. Like all great minds, King's was wide-ranging and deep-fathoming, and the range of topics about which he expressed thoughts and opinions is impressive. This is an excellent introduction to the great man's ideas and the language in which he couched them. ~--Brad Hooper
